The Perfect Dress: 5 Tips for Success

The Perfect Dress: 5 Tips for Success

What is the first thing most women think of when planning their wedding? The dress of course! Selecting the perfect wedding gown is essential in making sure your wedding day is perfect. Since there are so many different styles, shapes and colors to choose from it is important to get down to the basics and do some research. We have come up with a list of tips for brides-to-be to remember when selecting a dress.

Start shopping early!
Finding the perfect dress can take time and often does not happen on your first day of shopping. Start early because in some cases it can take up to 3 or 4 months to get the dress back. Also, you’ll want to have time to make necessary alterations once you do get the dress.

Know your budget!
If you are set on a budget, know what you are walking into when you go shopping. If your budget for the dress is a little bit lower because you chose to spend more money in other areas of the wedding, you may want to steer clear from custom made dresses and high end couture. It may even be a good idea to set the budget a little lower, that way if you do find something slightly more expensive, you know you can spend a bit more.

Look around online and at magazines!
Do your research. Looking around prior to trying on dresses will inspire you to narrow down your search. Also you can get an idea of the prices for different fabrics and styles; maybe even find a coupon, sale or discount somewhere.

Bring one or two close friends or family members!
Having too many opinions can cause you to doubt your own. At the end of the day, you are the one who wears the dress so it should be your choice. Bringing along too many friends or family members can lead to a party with too many differing opinions.

Once you find the dress….STOP!

There is always the case where the bride continues to look even after she found her dream dress. She is the one who ends up with 2 dream wedding dresses. There is no need to torture yourself by continuing to look for a better choice. Do not buy a dress until you are certain, and once you do buy a dress, know that you have made the right choice.

This will be the most important dress you are likely to buy in your lifetime. Take the time to do it right. As the saying goes ‘if you fail to plan, you plan to fail’. So start early, do your research and enjoy the experience!
